The Conference of AMRI is a scheduled meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information held biennially. Each ASEAN Member State will take turn to host the conference on a rotational basis. To date, ten AMRI conferences have been held.

Since the 1^st Conference of AMRI in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia in 1989, ASEAN Information Ministers have played an important role in promoting and enhancing regional cooperation in the field of information and broadcasting. The AMRI Conference has drawn up various policies and approaches towards the development and advancement of information and broadcasting fields in the region. Among the notable initiatives of this conference so far are the collaboration in addressing the negative reporting of foreign media, collaboration in addressing the challenges of ICT advancements, collaboration with other sectors in ASEAN in addressing important issues such as economic crisis, climate change, food security, global peace and others as well as collaboration in ASEAN Digital Broadcasting.

During the 10th Conference of AMRI in Vientiane, Lao PDR in 2009, ASEAN Information Ministers decided that Malaysia will be hosting the 11th AMRI.

The AMRI Conference will be held at two levels:

•Senior Officials Meeting (SOMRI) and SOMRI + 3 Meeting (China, Japan and Republic of Korea); and

•Ministerial Meeting (AMRI) and AMRI + 3 Meeting (China, Japan and Republic of Korea).

This conference will see Lao PDR handing over the Chairmanship of AMRI to Malaysia. Myanmar will be appointed as the Vice Chair of the 11 th AMRI.

The 11th AMRI Conference is scheduled to be held on 28th February - 1st March 2012 at the Hotel Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur. The delegations from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Dialogue Partners, namely China, Japan and Republic of Korea will be attending the 11^th AMRI in Malaysia.
